Wendy and her husband have 4 beautiful girls. But they felt like they were missing someone. After a long and painful adoption process they completed their family. There have been medical surprises and miracles, as well as blessings, both seen and unseen. I am so grateful that I got to meet Wendy and her beautiful family in LA for this session at Griffith Park. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your miracles with me.

This mother’s day

I did not get breakfast in bed – church was at 9,

I got no fancy gifts – school made projects and cards

I still had to do some dishes and send someone to timeout,

0 out of 4 children brushed their teeth before church,

2 out of 4 cleared their dishes and did a chore…

BUT this mother’s day,

I found myself focusing less on myself, and more on my relationships, the role I play in our home for good and bad, as mother. What tone am I setting, what do I bring to our day to day, how did I make them FEEL?

During church, I watched my husband play piano, my 4 children sing and pretend to sing, and my heart was full.

I didn’t need any gifts or a huge day off, I felt grateful that I have this chance – this ONE chance to be a mom – to play this role of a lifetime. I won’t win an award, but I can be present, a force for good, an example and a recipient of love, laughter and joy. Thank you Mom, for always encouraging me to be the best mom for my children – the one they need and deserve.

ps – I DID get breakfast & flowers & G is making me dinner… didn’t want to throw him under the bus. He is an amazing partner. But, he is the one taking a nap right now, as per my request. :)

In Spokane, I like to think of Spring as more of a catch-me-if-you-can type of deal. We look for the sun, and wait and wait some more and then, if you’re lucky and patient you might get a few golden hours to soak up some Vitamin D. We had a few such warm hours during Spring Break. All of Spokane’s finest made their way to Corbin Park for some frisbee golf. We went there too.

This little girl just turned 9. I asked her what she was excited about on turning a year older. She told me that now she would be caught up with all the other children in her class… When do we feel like we are done trying to “catch up”? When do we take it all in and enjoy the moments, the time, the light we are actually in? I am so guilty of this… always trying to pull myself back in – back to the present, back to what is going on immediately around me. I am always trying to be ever more present in my children’s lives, in my life as I watch it so quickly quickly changing. My children are growing up. I took a few moments to freeze the time, play with the light, and capture my little girl on her last day of being 8.
